Several of the folks on OHQP mail list have been following the saga of my missing amplifier. Here’s some breaking news…

I ordered the amp from DX Engineering in March of 2016. It was shipped out immediately and arrived in Florida in a few days. From Florida a freight forwarder shipped it to Costa Rica. It actually arrived in Costa Rica in late April 2016.

Unfortunately, there was a shake up in Customs here, and my amp got caught up in the turmoil. The amp sat in Customs for 17 months, and it was finally released about a month ago. Unfortunately, during the long storage time, the Customs warehouse here managed to loose the amp altogether.

On Monday, the freight broker finally gave up and asked me for my banking info so he could honor the insurance claim. I sent him the info, but on Tuesday, the amp was found in the warehouse after a last ditch effort to locate it.

It was delivered to me yesterday – finally.

When I ordered it from DX Engineering, I asked them to beef up the shipping box since it was likely to receive some rough handling along the way. Interestingly enough, MFJ double boxed the amp. DX Engineering added additional corner protectors before they shipped it. Much to my surprise, the amp was received intact, even after seven inspections. Only issue was one loose tube.

Hookup was a little problematic. The amp relay interface/buffer that I already had uses a RCA plug to key the amp. No problem there. Unfortunately, my Yaesu transceiver only has a 8 pin mini DIN output to key the interface/buffer. Much to my surprise, I actually had a new mini DIN in my junk box and was able to make up the correct cable marriage.

Even more amazing, nothing appears to be wrong with the amp! I haven’t finished putting it through all the paces, but everything so far seems good. We now have some fire in the wire!
