Tnx for the call Steve. you were 579 w/qrm, at 0045z, but I had my 2 el phased array pointing towards EU.
How'd you find cndx to the states? Band was really alive when you called but fair to poor during the afternoon up here in OH.

At the end of the contest, I came downstairs and everything was dark because I hadn’t turned any lights on earlier. My XYL is off to the states for a brief visit to the malls so she wasn’t here to take care of the little things like lights. I did manage to feed the animals their dinner (that’s why I missed out on 13 minutes of the contest). We learned a long time ago that walking barefoot across the floor in the dark is not a good idea but in Costa Rica, electricians love to mess with us Gringos but putting the light switches in out of the way places. Our dog and cats had all gone to bed, but were raring to go at 5 am. Unfortunately, I was not.

During the party I had several radio problems (mostly learning curve on new radio), a few logging issues (again it was the learning curve thing) two brief power outages, a funky winkeyer, ugly propagation and weather issues both in Ohio and in Costa Rica. Last night we had 6 inches of rain with lot’s of lightning and thunder. Perfectly normal for the rainy season.

After many years of playing in the OQP, I’m still amazed at how proficient K8MR is at putting out so many counties! Also, a thank you is in order to K8DV/K8CR who decided at the last minute to put out some counties that did not have any planned operations. I hear that Dave and Chuck had their fair share of learning issues when going mobile in the OQP. All 88 counties should have been represented.

Also, I think I’ll try to get a dipole up for 75/80 meters, the vertical is just too noisy and inefficient during the rainy season here. And, maybe work a little harder at picking up mults on 20 meter SSB.
